Every once and a while the CADWorx Ribbons get ‘lost’ in AutoCAD.  Sometimes it has been working fine and all of a sudden you open AutoCAD and it fails to load the Ribbons.  I have even seen this happen when a new profile is created using the “Setup New Profile”.  In these cases, the Profile is created and loads but the partial customization files still don’t get loaded.

In all cases, CADWorx is loaded and typing commands works fine but for some reason AutoCAD decides to ‘lose’ the connection to the partial customization files that hold the CADWorx Ribbons.

I’ve seen instances where the HL ESL Maintenance Utility is not able to pull information from a Network Lock even though CADWorx is able to run and grab a license from the Network.  In these cases, I have found the following steps necessary:

1. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the AutoCAD Installation Directory.  The default is “C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 20xx” where xx is the version of AutoCAD.
2. Find the NETHASP.ini file and copy it.  Given that CADWorx is able to run, this is a properly configured NETHASP.ini file.
3. Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the CADWorx Plant folder.  The default is “C:\CADWorx 20xx\Plant” where xx is the version of CADWorx.
4. Open the “Assidrv” folder, and paste the NETHASP.ini file into the folder.  Windows will ask you if you want to replace the current NETHASP.ini file.  Press yes.
5. Now Right-Click on the  Pulse.exe file and “Run As Administrator” to gather the log file.

I loaded AutoCAD 2014 this week – usually I wait to Service Pack 1 but I decided to throw caution to the wind.  After rebooting and starting AutoCAD 2014 once, I thought I would install the latest release of CADWorx on it.  I already had a CADWorx 2014 Beta installed on AutoCAD 2013 so I uninstalled, rebooted and plugged in the CD.  As soon as I hit the ‘next’ button in the CADWorx Installer I was greeted with the following screen:

After a bit of “Googling”, I found the AutoCAD 2014 Hotfix.  The Description of the problem can be found HERE.  It affects all Autodesk Verticals that use Custom Entities and all 3rd Party Applications that use Custom Entities including CADWorx 2014.  The hot fix addresses an issue with the file open command failing when a drawing is opened that contains custom entities with embedded 3D solids.  The hot-fix applies to the shipping versions of Autodesk AutoCAD 2014 and AutoCAD 2014-based vertical products.

Installation Instructions – The installation requires the replacement of the acdb19.dll file in the Product Installation Folder.  The default directory for AutoCAD is C:\Program
Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2014.

1. Close AutoCAD 2014
2. Download the correct Zip File based on your installation: 32 Bit or 64 Bit.
3. For Windows 7 and 8 Users: Right-Click on the Zip File and press “Properties”.  Ensure the file is not “Blocked”.  If it is press “Unblock” and then Apply and close the properties window.
4. Unzip the File.
5. Navigate to the Product Installation Folder.
6. Right-Click on the current acdb19.dll file and ensure it is version 19.1.18.0.  If the file is a later version then the Hot-fix has already been installed and the remaining steps can be skipped.
7. Right-click on the file to rename it to acdb19.bak
8. Copy the new unzipped file into the Product Installation Folder
9. Right-Click on the new acdb19.dll file and confirm it is version 19.1.18.0.1.

After I installed the Hot-fix, the CADWorx Installer recognized the fix and there were no more warnings upon installation!

Although I regret not just installing on AutoCAD 2013, I really do like the document tabs in AutoCAD 2014!

How do changes make their way into the Intergraph CADWorx & Analysis Software Solutions? As with most things, teamwork!

 Intergraph CADWorx & Analysis Solutions (ICAS) has partners all over the world and ECE Design is one of those partners in the CADWorx Focus Group. ECE is the frontline, working with customers to solve everyday workflow challenges. ICAS and ECE then meet and discuss those solutions and generate ways to incorporate them into your favorite ICAS software.  Some changes are small and some are pretty major, but all are important.

 CADWorx Plant Professional has taken the limelight over the last year with enhanced pipe routing, design grips, and other great time saving tools. With 2014 around the corner and further enhancements to CADWorx Plant Professional, the CADWorx Focus Group is shifting its attention – for a bit – to CADWorx P&ID Professional, CADWorx Steel Professional and CADWorx Equipment.  Now, things don’t happen overnight but the CADWorx Focus Group has been compiling ideas from around the globe into a single list. We recently met to discuss this list and how to incorporate the ideas contained within, into the ICAS products we love.

 This latest meeting was a genuine success and we thank our hosts at ICAS for getting us all together. We are very excited to see the CADWorx family of products grow and thrive.
